statues are kinda gay but we should keep them

Removing statues from the public eyes in order to reduce its significance and the recognition is not only an attempt at erasing history, but is also an extremely slippery slope to radical censorships. Firstly, when we erect statues, we erect them for their amazing feats they have accomplished in their times and to commemorate them for their bravery, not because they were a slave owner. It is unfortunate that people can only see it for their short coming and refuse to acknowledge their accomplishment because of their conflicting ideologies with a person from centuries ago. It is unfair to treat those people in contempt because it is virtually impossible for things that are consistent with today’s standards to be the social norm in the near future, almost everyone conforms to what society sees as the prevalent social standards and most people don’t have control over that. Secondly, the act of dismantling statues of people because they fail to meet the modern standards is nothing short of the start of extreme censorship. if the intentions of removing a statue is to disown the memory of a historically important person from the public view, the only logical step for them to take next is to demand the removal of books and articles that glorifies and praises them. If we start censoring and destroying every historical object because of their ‘problematic’ and ‘outdated’ ideas, how will we ever learn from our past mistakes? Thousands of years of significant events all forgotten because we simply didn’t agree with them when we view it with our modern standards.
how cringe and stupid of us
